Experiences

These are some of our family’s favourite places to visit when we’re staying in Samal — spots we return to for their natural beauty, quieter atmosphere, and connection to the island beyond the usual tourist trail. They’re simple, meaningful experiences we enjoy at our own pace, and we’re happy to share them with guests who want to experience Samal the way we do.

Monfort Bat Sanctuary

~30 minutes travel time

Home to the world’s largest colony of fruit bats, living naturally in limestone caves with viewing platforms and short guided briefings

Visit late afternoon if you can and ask about twilight tours to see the bats at sunset. Keep noise low, avoid flash photography, and bring a handkerchief or lightly scented cloth on hotter days.

Hagimit Falls (Stream Valley Nature’s Park)

~40 minutes travel time

A scenic inland waterfall surrounded by lush greenery and natural rock pools, offering a refreshing break from Samal’s beaches.

Access is via an organised day tour only, so plan ahead. Wear water shoes and bring a light towel — it’s cooler and shaded compared to coastal spots.

Giant Clam Sanctuary

~45–60 minutes travel time

A community-led marine sanctuary protecting giant clams in their natural habitat, with clear waters ideal for viewing marine life.

Inquire locally in Barangay Kaputian for access. Bring your own snorkelling gear and go earlier in the day for calmer seas — one of the most meaningful, low-key experiences on the island.
